Choosing drum heaters and warmers

Choosing the right Drum heaters and warmers

Processing and handling any liquid ingredient is often easier when the material is warmed or heated.   How do you go about researching and finding the very best way to heat the material in the pail or drum and then choose the best drum or pail heater to use?

First, make sure the liquid you are needing to heat is safe to heat. Never try to warm or heat a liquid or semi liquid, or anything that is hazardous or combustible or  flammable. Heating an unsafe product could result in a disastrous accident and hurt someone and cause property damage. Always check your safety data sheet of the product you are thinking or warming or heating and make sure it is safe to warm or heat.

Another important consideration to look at when you are needing to heat a pail or a drum is the compatibility of the container. Most drum heaters are for use with all metal drums and pails. There are a few made just for poly drums. Make sure you always buy a heater compatible with the pail or drum.

Before choosing a drum warmer or heater, always thoroughtly inspect your electrical system to make sure you can safely use a pail or drum heater. It is best to have the electriacl system checked out by a licensed electrician and explain to the electrician your requirements and needs. You will want to be  sure that any pail heater or 55 gallon drum heater you are using has the correct type of connections, the correct amperage breaker and the correctly rated  outlet, and that the pail and drum heater are equipped with the correct plug  for the outlet. You may need to consult a local qualified electrician to get your  electrical  system checked out and confirm everything is safe and  you are ready to use whatever pail heater or drum heater you choose.

Next, check with the maker or the distributor of the products you are heating to find out what the melt point is. Knowing the melt point of the product you will be heating will make the job a lot easier and produce better results with less frustration. Check around to find drum or pail heaters that will heat the product(s) to the temperature of the melt point of the product you will be heating. Make sure that the heater meets all required  safety standards, and  check to see if it  appears to be well made. Now days it would also be beneficial to see if you can find customer reviews and check the performance of the drum or pail heater.

When the drum or pail heater arrives check it out closely and make sure it is exactly what you ordered. Review the instructions carefully and make sure you understand how the heater operates and where all of the controls are.  Make sure it has the correct plug in, and works properly.  One key thing to keep in mind while using any drum or pail heater is that most manufacturers recommend that you  monitor the unit while it is plugged in and do not leave it unattended. Also, do not let the product you are melting get below the heater.

N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP) uses, applicaitons, and sourcing

N-Methylpyrrolidone (NMP) N-Methylpyrrolidone is a colorless to slightly yellow liquid with a mild amine odor. It is very versatile since is it miscible with water and various solvents. N-Methylpyrrolidone, also known by the synonym NMP, is a  versatile, effective solvent that in many applications replaces dangerous solvents and solvents that are or were ozone depleting. It  used in numerous commercial/industrial applications as a co-solvent with water, alcohols and other organic substances.  used as a cleaner and degreaser and in many other applications. It is often used in specialty resins, stripping epoxy, as a pigment dispersant, plastics, textiles,  agrochemicals. In the electronics/ microelectronics industry specifically it is often used as a process solvent for  cleaning silicon wafers, removing marker dyes and soldering flux residues from circuit boards. One advantage of NMP   is that it is not on the Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs) list of the...

What is pH, Using pH test strips

What is pH pH paper, pH testing strips and how to use them What is pH and When to use pH strips and how to use them ph Definition :  pH simply explained, is a logarithmic scale and inversely indicates the concentration of hydrogen ions to measure  the relative amount of free hydrogen and hydroxyl ions.   pH measurements utilize a scale from  0 to 14 to specify acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution.  On one side of the pH scale are the acids, and the other side of the scale  is considered alkaline also called "base." Acidic solutions are when measured and they have lower pH values. Strong acids are typically considered to be at pH of 0 to about 4.0 and become weaker up to what are considered mild acids at around 6.0 pH. Neutral is 6.5 to 7.3. Base solutions, also called alkaline on the pH scale are from about 7.4 to strong alkaline above 9.0 up to 14. (These descriptions of pH are relative depending on several factors.) Water that ha...

PROPYLENE GLYCOL: COMMON USES, SPECIFICATIONS, and WHERE TO BUY  Propylene glycol Propylene glycol  is a near odorless, clear, colorless, viscous liquid,  and which possesses a faintly sweet taste. The chemical formula is CH 3 CH(OH)CH 2 OH.   Propylene glycol, also known by the abbreviation, PG,  is widely used since it is miscible water and a  broad range of other solvents, acetone, and chloroform. Like most glycols, PG, in general is non-irritating and has low  volatility.  The CAS number for Propylene Glycol is  57-55-6 PG is major industrial chemical and it is produced on a large scale primarily for the production of polymers, and  as a very useful intermediate for other chemicals. In 2019 nearly 2  million metric tons were produced.   It is used in all kinds of commerical, industrial and even sme home uses. PG is  used in making aircraft deicing fluids, and also has uses in applications like home and a...
